Silenus, de leraar van Bacchus, ligt dronken onder een boom. Onder zijn linkerbeen ligt een wijnkruik, naast hem slapen twee dronken saterkinderen. Drie vrouwen bekijken Silenus spottend, de rechter vrouw legt een druiventros op zijn hoofd. Pendant van een prent met de beeltenis van een door kinderen omringde bacchante.

    Participation in the Expert Appraisal of Paintings for the Elector

    When van Uylenburgh tried to sell 13 paintings to Frederick William, Elector of Brandenburg, and Hendrick Fromantiou declared 12 of them forgeries, Lairesse was among the 51 experts called in for the inquiry.

    Son born: Johannes de Lairesse

  3. 1676–1681

    The Literary Society Nil Volentibus Arduum

    After moving to the Spinhuissteeg, he became a member of the literary society Nil Volentibus Arduum, which apparently met at his house from 1676 to 1681.

  4. 1676–1683

    Paintings for Soestdijk Palace

    He painted pictures for the decoration of Soestdijk Palace; in this period he also created stage sets for the theater and drawings for the theatrical works of Andries Pels and the collector Gerrit Reynst.
