This pencil sketch of Henry Irving by the artist A.M.Freeman formed part of a set of sketches of the actor collected in a scrapbook.
This image shows Henry Irving as he appeared the first time he played the role of Hamlet at the Lyceum in 1874 (a production which he also directed). A similar image is part of the Raymond Mander and Mitchenson Collection and is associated with Act II, Scene 2.
