Apunte de los muchos que Sorolla realiza para su obra Sol de la tarde, y que muestra un buey visto de frente con la testa inclinada hacia su derecha. Una línea oblicua sugiere el yugo que lo une a otro buey del que sólo se representa parte de la cornamenta. A la derecha, apunte de otro buey, incompleto, también visto de frente y ligeramente escorzado hacia la derecha.

    The painting won the medal of honour at the National Exhibition in Madrid. Two of its luminous preparatory oil sketches Sorolla gave as gifts to the American artists John Singer Sargent and William Merritt Chase.
