The whole lifec. 1872
First art lessons in Valencia
At the age of nine Joaquín began his art education in his native Valencia, then studied under a succession of teachers including Cayetano Capuz and Salustiano Asenjo. Other accounts say he began to study painting at fourteen.

Meets Clotilde García del Castillo
While working in her father’s studio, Sorolla first met Clotilde García del Castillo, his future wife.

Madrid: studying the old masters in the Prado
At eighteen Sorolla travelled to Madrid and studied the master paintings in the Museo del Prado with great energy.
