About the work

In the museum's own words — in Dutch

Een eetkamer met figuren rond een tafel. Rechts een rijk aangeklede vrouw en kind. Tegenover hen drie sober geklede heren. Een man bedient hen. Rechts op de achtergrond een kind dat uit een pan eet. Links een bediende met glazen. Scène uit het blijspel De Stiefmoêr van Thomas Asselyn uit 1684, waarin het personage Jochem de arme familie van zijn tweede vrouw op bezoek krijgt. Zijn eigen kind moet de pot uitlikken, terwijl zijn tweede vrouw en haar familie het lekkerste eten krijgen.
