In 1565–1566 Cort lived in Venice in the house of Titian, who immediately recognized his abilities and gave him his finest paintings to reproduce.

Return to Italy: Venice, Bologna, Rome
Having returned from Italy to the Netherlands, Cort left again for Venice shortly after 1567, and from there traveled to Bologna and Rome, where he engraved after the paintings of the great masters of the time.

Roman School of Engravers and Work for Lafreri
In Rome he worked extensively for the publishing house of Antonio Lafreri and founded a famous school of engravers that produced a whole line of skilled masters; his manner was later developed by Agostino Carracci.
