    Training in Engraving with Lucas Vorsterman

    He worked under the renowned engraver Lucas Vorsterman, from whom he learned the art of engraving.

  2. 1624

    Chief Engraver of Rubens's Workshop

    After Vorsterman's quarrel with Rubens in 1624, Pontius took his place and for several years was the workshop's principal engraver, reproducing the master's drawings and paintings.

  3. 1624–1631

    Living in Rubens's House

    From 1624 to 1631 Pontius lived in Rubens's house.

  4. 26 April 1634

    Adriaen Brouwer Moves into His House

    On April 26, 1634, the famous but impoverished genre painter Adriaen Brouwer, a close friend of Pontius, moved into his house on the Everdijstraat; in the same year both joined the chamber of rhetoric De Violieren.

  5. after 1640

    Work After Van Dyck, Jordaens, and Others Following Rubens's Death

    After Rubens's death in 1640 he produced numerous reproductive engravings after originals by Rubens, Van Dyck, Jordaens, Seghers, de Crayer, Titian, and Velázquez; in all he executed 42 plates after Rubens.
