About the sculpture

Charles James Fox is shown nearly full face with short brown hair wearing a blue-black coat with a light turned over collar over a yellow waistcoat and a folded neckcloth. The curtain background and drapery below the wax are in black silk.

Fox (1749-1806) was a prominent British Whig statesman with a distinguished parliamentary career in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. He was the arch rival of William Pitt the younger.
