  1. 27 August 1488

    Cardinal Carafa's commission takes him to Rome

    On 27 August 1488, on Lorenzo de' Medici's recommendation, Cardinal Oliviero Carafa commissioned Filippino to fresco his family chapel in the Roman church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva. The artist, then in his early thirties, set off for Rome.

    Possibly visits Venice

    In 1489 Filippino may have visited Venice.

  3. 1491

    Competes for the façade of Florence Cathedral

    Back from Rome in 1491, Filippino took part in the competition for the façade of Florence Cathedral and resumed the frescoes of the Strozzi Chapel. Other accounts have him returning to Florence some time between 1491 and 1494.
