Anverso: Escena de género En primer plano, en el centro de la composición, figura femenina de perfil a la derecha. Va vestida con falda larga y peinada con moño alto. En las manos lleva una especie de fuente. A su lado, recortando su silueta, figura masculina de espaldas, parece que sentado. Lleva sombrero. Frente a ellos, una vaca de perfil hacia la izquierda, girando la cabeza hacia nosotros. Tras ella, a la derecha, un ternerillo. Reverso: Boyero En primer plano, buey de perfil hacia la derecha. Tras él, hay un segundo buey que ha sido sólo insinuado en el lomo y parte del morro, y sobre la testuz, hay un muchacho, que debe estar guiando la yunta.

“A Research”: the Prize of Honour in Madrid
Two paintings linking art and science, “Portrait of Dr. Simarro at the Microscope” and “A Research”, won Sorolla the Prize of Honour at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He showed his friend Simarro in the laboratory, catching the contrast between the reddish-yellow light of a gas burner and the weak mauvish light from the window.
