About the sculpture
This boy with a goat, a goatherd, is made by Ferdinand Ditz, in South Germany, in the third quarter of the 18th century. The figure is a model for stone garden sculpture.
It is characteristic of Dietz's work during the 1760's and 1770's for the gardens of the Prince-Bishops of Bamberg and Würzburg at Seehof and Veitshöchheim. There are a number of comparable wood models by Dietz, many of them pigmented, in the museums at Würzburg, Nuremberg and Munich.
