    From 1845 Jacque, together with Jean-François Millet, frequently visited the small town of Barbizon.

    Baudelaire's Praise in His Salon Review

    In his review of the Salon of 1845, Charles Baudelaire wrote of Jacque: "His etchings are very bold... Everything Monsieur Jacque does on copper is full of a freedom and frankness reminiscent of the old masters."

    Move to Barbizon

    Fleeing the cholera epidemic that had struck Paris, Jacque settled in Barbizon in August 1849 together with Millet and Théodore Rousseau. There he painted shepherds, sheep, and scenes of peasant life.
