Sale of his patron Michell’s collection
His patron and friend Matthew Michell had collected hundreds of his paintings and displayed them at his country residence, Grove House in Enfield; after Michell’s death his nephew Sir Henry Onslow sold the contents of the house at an eight-day sale.

Designs for “The English Spy” and “The Spirit of the Public Journals”
In 1825 “The Spirit of the Public Journals” and “The English Spy” appeared with his designs. He also illustrated Smollett, Goldsmith and Sterne.

Dies in London
He died aged 69 at his lodgings at 1 James Street, Adelphi, after a prolonged illness, and was buried on 28 April at St Paul’s, Covent Garden. His belongings passed to his housekeeper Betsy Winter; the suggestion of some authors that she was his mistress has been rejected by others.
