About the work

In the museum's own words — in Russian

Жанровая сценка – копия с сепии знаменитого художника К.П. Брюллова. Оригинал под названием «Мать, просыпающаяся от плача ребенка» находится в собрании Государственного Русского музея. Рисунок исполнен в период обучения Гороновича в Академии художеств. Вернувшись из Италии в Россию, Брюллов начал преподавать в Академии. В 1836 году в его мастерскую поступил Горонович, став одним из любимых учеников. В педагогическую систему Академии входило копирование лучших образцов графики. Это считалось эффективным средством передачи профессиональных навыков, воспитания вкуса художника. Известно, что Брюллов использовал для этого собственные произведения. В мастерской часто копировали его работы под непосредственным наблюдением педагога.

Благодаря сохранившейся копии, исполненной Гороновичем, мы имеем представление об этом рисунке известного мастера. В собрании музея находятся и другие рисунки Гороновича, исполненные с работ Брюллова.
