Anverso: En la barca En el cetro, barca vista de frente, y dentro de ella, una figura masculina vista de espaldas, cubriéndose la cabeza con sombrero flexible de amplia ala, seguramente de paja. Frente a él, a su derecha, otra figura con el mismo sombrero con algo entre sus manos, y a la izquierda, otra u otras figuras más esbozadas. Al fondo, se ve la vela desplegada de la barca. Reverso: Apuntes A la derecha, arriba, busto femenino de perfil a la izquierda, muy esquemático. En la zona inferior, visto con el papel girado, a la derecha, una cabeza vista desde atrás ligeramente de perfil. Bajo ella, un perfil infantil a la derecha, y un brazo regordete, infantil.

“A Research”: the Prize of Honour in Madrid
Two paintings linking art and science, “Portrait of Dr. Simarro at the Microscope” and “A Research”, won Sorolla the Prize of Honour at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He showed his friend Simarro in the laboratory, catching the contrast between the reddish-yellow light of a gas burner and the weak mauvish light from the window.
