Anverso: Durmiendo A la derecha, figura masculina de frente, representada hasta las rodillas. Está sentado, recostado hacia la derecha, con la cabeza apoyada en su mano izquierda. Está vestido, con chaqueta y corbata, durmiendo. En la zona de su hombro derecho, parece que se ha empezado a dibujar una cabeza. Reverso: Apuntes En la zona superior, apunte de un sombrero femenino adornado con una lazada. Bajo éste, a la izquierda, una figura muy esquemática con el brazo derecho extendido al lado del cuerpo y cubierta con sombrero. En la zona inferior, otro rasguño.

“A Research”: the Prize of Honour in Madrid
Two paintings linking art and science, “Portrait of Dr. Simarro at the Microscope” and “A Research”, won Sorolla the Prize of Honour at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He showed his friend Simarro in the laboratory, catching the contrast between the reddish-yellow light of a gas burner and the weak mauvish light from the window.
