Anverso: Apuntes de figuras En la zona superior, figura infantil girada de tres cuartos hacia la izquierda. A la altura de su rodilla, dibujo de una espalda. A su derecha, un niño arrodillado con los brazos extendidos. En la franja central, a la izquierda, un semicírculo representando una cabeza, seguido de otra forma casi semicircular y un torso. En la zona inferior, en el centro, esbozo de la curva de una figura agachada y frente a él, visto con el papel en horizontal, una figura corriendo con los brazos extendidos. Reverso: Apuntes de figuras En la zona inferior, figura masculina juvenil desnuda, hasta las rodillas con las manos frente a la cara. A la derecha, otro desnudo infantil, de espaldas, con los brazos extendidos a los lados. Sobre él, ligero apunte de una cabeza y unos hombros. En la zona superior izquierda, rasguños.

“A Research”: the Prize of Honour in Madrid
Two paintings linking art and science, “Portrait of Dr. Simarro at the Microscope” and “A Research”, won Sorolla the Prize of Honour at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He showed his friend Simarro in the laboratory, catching the contrast between the reddish-yellow light of a gas burner and the weak mauvish light from the window.
