Anverso: Apuntes de figuras A la izquierda figura vista de frente, representada esquemáticamente, en movimiento. A su derecha, figura vista girada de tres cuartos, avanzando hacia la izquierda. En el centro, en la parte superior e inferior, dos apuntes de cabezas. Tras ellos, busto femenino con sombrero y por último, otra figura de perfil a la derecha. Reverso: Apuntes de figuras A la izquierda, figura acéfala, con vestido corto. A su derecha, una figura de perfil se agacha hacia delante. En la zona derecha, una cabeza masculina vista desde atrás. Con el papel en sentido contrario, a la izquierda busto masculino de frente y otro de perfil.

    “A Research”: the Prize of Honour in Madrid

    Two paintings linking art and science, “Portrait of Dr. Simarro at the Microscope” and “A Research”, won Sorolla the Prize of Honour at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He showed his friend Simarro in the laboratory, catching the contrast between the reddish-yellow light of a gas burner and the weak mauvish light from the window.
