Anverso: Apuntes de figuras A la izquierda, en la zona inferior, una figura de cuerpo entero, agachada. Sobre ésta, en mayor tamaño y hacia el centro del papel, ligero apunte de otra figura, sentada sobre sus piernas e inclinada hacia delante. A su derecha, rasguños. En la zona centro inferior, figura agachada, de frente a nosotros. Reverso: Apuntes de figuras En la zona centro superior, dos figuras arrodilladas inclinadas hacia delante. En la zona inferior, rasguños.

    “A Research”: the Prize of Honour in Madrid

    Two paintings linking art and science, “Portrait of Dr. Simarro at the Microscope” and “A Research”, won Sorolla the Prize of Honour at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He showed his friend Simarro in the laboratory, catching the contrast between the reddish-yellow light of a gas burner and the weak mauvish light from the window.
