Anverso: Café-Teatro En el centro de la composición, figura femenina de pie, de cuerpo entero, en un escenario. Lleva vestido largo, coloreado en naranja, con mangas cortas, abultadas, cubriéndose el resto de los brazos con guantes largos. Está inclinada hacia delante y sonriendo, con las manos juntas al frente. A la derecha, farola con cinco brazos y uno central. Al fondo, unas arquerías y todo coloreado en distintos tonos de verde. Reverso: Apunte A la derecha, ligero apunte de busto de figura femenina, de frente y con los brazos extendidos a los lados.

“A Research”: the Prize of Honour in Madrid
Two paintings linking art and science, “Portrait of Dr. Simarro at the Microscope” and “A Research”, won Sorolla the Prize of Honour at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He showed his friend Simarro in the laboratory, catching the contrast between the reddish-yellow light of a gas burner and the weak mauvish light from the window.
