Anverso: Galanteo En la parte derecha, figura masculina sugerida con una línea que contornea la silueta del torso y de la cabeza; todo ello sin detalle. Está de perfil a la izquierda, mirando a una figura femenina situada a su izquierda, sentada en un banco. Trazos muy breves, enérgicos y ennegrecidos sugieren el vestido de la mujer así como el bolso que está a su lado. Reverso: Apunte de cabeza Cabeza de frente, poco terminada, siendo los ojos el único elemento del rostro representado, y tan sólo por dos círculos sin cerrar.

“A Research”: the Prize of Honour in Madrid
Two paintings linking art and science, “Portrait of Dr. Simarro at the Microscope” and “A Research”, won Sorolla the Prize of Honour at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He showed his friend Simarro in the laboratory, catching the contrast between the reddish-yellow light of a gas burner and the weak mauvish light from the window.
