    Settles in Barbizon to work from nature

    Daubigny initially painted in a more traditional style, but this changed after 1843, when he settled in Barbizon to work outdoors, directly from nature.

    Death of his father and first teacher

    The artist's father, Edmé-François Daubigny (1789–1843), died; together with Daubigny's uncle, the miniaturist Pierre Daubigny, he had introduced his son to art at an early age.
