Apollo is verliefd op de Spartaanse prins Hyacinthus en leert hem discuswerpen. De jaloerse Zephyrus (de Westenwind) werpt de discus tegen de schedel van Hyacinthus die dan dood neervalt. Op de plek waar zijn bloed terecht komt schiet een hyacint uit de aarde. In de marge een vierregelig onderschrift, in twee kolommen, in het Latijn.
