About the work

In the museum's own words — in Dutch

Gezin van alchemisten aan het werk in een werkplaats. Links is een man bezig metalen te smelten op een fornuis en in het midden wordt met blaasbalgen een vuur opgestookt. Rechts een geleerde achter boeken. Drie kinderen ontsnappen aan de chaos door door een luik te kruipen. Op de achtergrond is te zien hoe het gezin in een gasthuis of ziekenhuis wordt opgevangen. Onder de voorstelling twee drieregelige verzen in het Latijn.
