608 works seized; “Degenerate Art”
The Nazis seize 608 of his works from German museums (other accounts say by 1938); 25 paintings, 24 drawings and 2 watercolours end up in July 1937 at the Munich exhibition “Degenerate Art”. Like Barlach or Nolde, he nonetheless goes on showing some works at the so-called “production exhibitions” held under the patronage of the German Labour Front.
