Dies in London
He died aged 69 at his lodgings at 1 James Street, Adelphi, after a prolonged illness, and was buried on 28 April at St Paul’s, Covent Garden. His belongings passed to his housekeeper Betsy Winter; the suggestion of some authors that she was his mistress has been rejected by others.
