Im Leben von Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec

Das ganze Leben
  1. May 1878

    Fracture of the Right Femur

At the age of thirteen, while rising from a chair, Henri broke the neck of his right femur.

  2. August 1879

Fracture of the Left Femur: His Legs Stopped Growing

Falling into a ditch, Henri fractured the neck of his left femur. After this incident his legs ceased to grow; the fractures healed poorly, which modern physicians attribute to a hereditary disorder.

  3. 1882

Return to Paris, Study under Léon Bonnat

Impressed by Henri's progress in painting, René Princeteau persuaded his parents to let him return to Paris and study with the portraitist Léon Bonnat; his mother used the family's influence to place her son in his studio.

  4. 1882

Move to Cormon's Studio, Meeting Van Gogh

After Bonnat's departure, Toulouse-Lautrec moved in 1882 to the studio of Fernand Cormon, where he studied for another five years and made lifelong friends; during this time he met Émile Bernard and Vincent van Gogh.
