Using architectural details as starting points,
James Rigler reduces forms to their essential
components and employs monochrome colours.
The results often appear like oversized models or
toys. ‘The Severed Head’ derives from a stone
carving of a disembodied head set upon a
gatepost in Pollok Park, Glasgow. Its title is
descriptive, but also suggests the process by
which architectural ornament might become free-
standing sculpture.
