Über das Werk
Soon after the end of World War I, Vlaminck acquired a motorcycle and traveled hundreds of miles exploring remote villages of France; their empty streets became frequent subjects of his paintings, prints, and pastels throughout the 1920s.

Swaps his house for an estate at Rueil-la-Gadelière
In 1925 Vlaminck exchanged the house in Valmondois for a small country property at Rueil-la-Gadelière, a village south-west of Paris, where he settled. From that year he travelled all over France but continued to paint mainly along the Seine near Paris.
