This marble relief representing St. John the Baptist is made by an unknown artist in Italy in the second half on the 15th century.
It depicts the young St. John advancing to the right in a rocky landscape, holding a scroll in his hand and a staff in his right, his cloak blowing out behind him
The relief has close affinities with the later work of Antonio Rossellino, in particular with the relief of the Adoration of the Shepherds in the Piccolomini Chapel in S. Anna dei Lombardi at Naples (1475) and the statue of St. John the Baptist entering the wilderness by Antonio Rossellino in the Bargello at Florence (1477). It was probably carved by a member of the Rossellini workshop.
