Ken Pyne was born in 1951. In the 1980s he became one of the most effective British cartoonists dealing with economic themes, with his work appearing widely in satirical journals such as Punch, Private Eye, and The Oldie. He has also been a regular cartoonist in broadsheet newspapers with a financial focus. In this work, his target are the many varied appeals on behalf of different charities at Christmastime. It was included in a 1993 V&A Christmas card display entitled 'Alternative Christmas'.
