Wins a gold medal at the Paris Salon
He won a gold medal at the Paris Salon, together with John Constable and Anthony Vandyke Copley Fielding.

Trip to London: Turner and the English school
He travelled to London with Delacroix to study the work of William Turner and the English school of painting, and the friends sketched together there. Other accounts say that Bonington went with Alexandre-Marie Colin and met Delacroix in London.

Trip to northern Italy and a month in Venice
He visited northern Italy and stayed in Venice for a month.

British Institution exhibition makes his name in England
The works he showed at the British Institution included “French Coast with Fisherman”. The exhibition established his reputation in his native England, where he had previously been largely unknown.
1828
Tuberculosis worsens: back to London for treatment
His lung disease worsened and his parents sent him back to London for treatment. He died there of tuberculosis, aged twenty-five, at 29 Tottenham Street.
