Critics accuse him of copying Sisley
In 1903–1908 Picabia painted small churches, lanes, Paris rooftops, riverbanks and barges under the influence of Alfred Sisley; critics charged him with copying Sisley, Monet and Signac. Feeling his style was outdated, he began to look for a new approach.

Drawn to the future Cubists
From 1909 Picabia's style changed under the influence of the artists soon to be called Cubists, who would later form the Section d'Or.
1910
Meets Marcel Duchamp
His meeting with Marcel Duchamp in 1910 had a decisive influence on Picabia's personality and art: he moved from Fauvism to Cubism and geometric abstraction. Other accounts have them becoming friends around 1911 in the Puteaux Group.
