Marc travels with his older brother Paul, a Byzantine expert, to Thessaloniki, Mount Athos and other places in Greece.

The second trip to Paris: Gauguin and Van Gogh
Marc visits Paris for the second time; over the two trips he gets to know French Post-Impressionism, above all the painting of Gauguin and Van Gogh, which strongly influences him.

Takes up the serious study of animal anatomy
After his second trip to Paris Marc begins a serious study of animal anatomy, so as to give his vision of nature fuller expression in paint.
1911
Leaving the NKVM and founding Der Blaue Reiter
In December 1911 Marc, together with Macke and Kandinsky, breaks away from the Neue Künstlervereinigung and organises his own group, Der Blaue Reiter; he is also credited with founding the journal that became the centre of the circle.

The first Blue Rider exhibition
Several of Marc's works are shown at the first Blue Rider exhibition at the Thannhauser Galleries in Munich, which has been called the apex of German Expressionism.
