Derweil im Leben von Camille Corot

Das ganze Leben
  1. 1865–1875

    “Père Corot” of Parisian artists

In his final ten years Corot became the “Père (Father) Corot” of Parisian artistic circles, regarded with personal affection and acknowledged as one of the five or six greatest landscape painters the world had seen, along with Hobbema, Claude Lorrain, Turner and Constable.

  2. 1874

Friends present Corot with a gold medal

Despite his great success among artists and collectors, his many friends felt that he had been officially neglected, and in 1874, a short time before his death, they presented him with a gold medal.

  3. late 1874

    Retires to Coubron

At the end of 1874 Corot retired to Coubron in the Île-de-France.

  4. 1875

    10,000 francs for Millet's widow

In 1875 Corot donated 10,000 francs to the widow of Millet in support of her children. His charity was near proverbial.

  5. 25 January 1875

Ill with stomach cancer, he returns to Paris

Suffering from stomach cancer, Corot returned to Paris on 25 January 1875. He remained bedridden at No. 56 Rue du Faubourg-Poissonnière until his death.
