Über das Werk

“Occupying Wall Street, December 18, 2011”

Yajaira of the Mixtec Nation. Yajaira had come to the United States undocumented with her family at the age of four. The protest in Zuccotti Park this day centered on immigration and amnesty for undocumented children. The legislation was known as the Dream Act or by its acronym DACA.

Yajaira opened a restaurant in the Bronx with her brother serving indigenous food. The restaurant, which has been very successful, employs only undocumented workers and has a resource area in the restaurant for undocumented people. She is now in law school.
