Begins “Vision in Motion”
By 1943 Moholy-Nagy had begun an account of his efforts to develop the School of Design's curriculum; prepared with his art-historian wife Sibyl, it was published posthumously in 1947 as “Vision in Motion”.
1944
The School of Design becomes the Institute of Design
In 1944 the School of Design in Chicago became the Institute of Design; in 1949 it became part of the Illinois Institute of Technology, the first institution in the United States to offer a PhD in design. The art historian Elizabeth Siegel called it “his overarching work of art”.
1945
Diagnosed with leukaemia
In 1945 Moholy-Nagy was diagnosed with leukaemia. Until his death in Chicago on 24 November 1946 he went on making work in many media, teaching and attending conferences.
April 1946
Becomes an American citizen
In April 1946 Moholy-Nagy became a naturalised American citizen.
