A founding member of the Peredvizhniki
Savrasov became one of the founding members of the Association of Travelling Art Exhibitions (the Peredvizhniki) and took part in its exhibitions in 1871–1875, and in the Academy’s exhibitions in 1873–1878 as well. This is seen as his break with state-sponsored academic art.

One of the Savrasovs’ daughters died as a newborn in Yaroslavl (another daughter died in childhood of scarlet fever).
