Court visits: portraits of the emperor's prospective brides
He travels to Innsbruck, Venice, Turin, Mantua and Modena, partly to portray potential future consorts of the emperor; under this pretext he was also to learn the terms of a marriage and the likely dowry.

Death of Rudolf II; service under Matthias I
After the death of his patron, von Aachen, unlike most of Rudolf's court artists, is retained by his successor Matthias I, who gives him an estate in Raussnitz. His main occupation becomes portraits of the imperial couple.

Journeys for Matthias I
In 1612 the emperor sends him to Dresden and Vienna; in 1613 he is back in Augsburg, and in 1614 again in Dresden.
