Работа выполнена в декоративном плане - скорее сказочный, чем реальный городской пейзаж. Изображение праздника. Улицы, окна домов, ярко освещены, играют разноцветными огнями, которые отражаются с берега в водной поверхности реки. На переднем плане - узкая полоска противоположного берега, справа - угол дома с освещенными окнами; деревья ажурно листвой и ветвями вырисовываются на фоне изумрудного неба. Небо же в сполохах от разноцветных огней фейерверка. У берега причалены лодки; по улицам городка - фигурки гуляющих людей.

Joins the Jewish Society for the Encouragement of the Arts
In 1916 he joins the Jewish Society for the Encouragement of the Arts.

Becomes a portraitist of the new order
Accepting the Bolsheviks’ rise to power, he quickly emerges as a portraitist of the nascent new order. After the revolution he takes part in exhibitions of the Peredvizhniki, the Community of Artists, the Kuindzhi Society, the Sixteen group, the “First Free Exhibition” and the “Exhibition of Artists of All Trends”.

Invited to paint Kerensky’s portrait
Together with Ilya Repin he is invited to paint A. F. Kerensky; by the master’s own account, the life drawing stayed in the Winter Palace after the sitting and was lost in the turbulent events that followed.
