The Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA) was set up by Basil Dean and Leslie Henson to provide entertainment for the British military during the Second World War. The Council for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts (CEMA) was established in 1940, and was to help support and preserve British culture. In 1945, CEMA became the Arts Council of Great Britain.
