Waqas Khan trained at the National College of Fine Art, Lahore. Here he learnt about a process used in miniature painting where a brush made from squirrel hair is used to create the finest of marks. He became fascinated with this and adapted it to modern materials.
His works are created from minute dots and lines using a Rotring Rapido 0.1 pen normally used by architects. He sees the dots and lines as building bricks which shape the final form. His process of working is very meditative and intense. He works very close to the paper, the permanent ink means there is no margin for error and so he holds his breath while working, the repetitive nature of the drawing takes him into a state of pure silence and energy. The dots and lines look like micro-organisms, as if they are moving. Waqas wants his works to communicate energy, purity and beauty.
