Im Leben von Agnolo Bronzino
Das ganze Leben1540–1555
Tapestry cartoons: the story of Joseph
Between 1540 and 1555 Bronzino prepares cartoons for the tapestry workshops of Florence, among them sixteen scenes from the story of the Old Testament patriarch Joseph for the Palazzo Vecchio, on which he works together with Francesco Salviati. Giovanni Rost and Nicolas Karcher based their own works on his designs.
from 1541
Poetry and the Florentine Academy
Educated and widely read, Bronzino knows Dante and Petrarch well, writes poetry, and from 1541 is a member of the Florentine Academy. The subject of some of his poems is his love for Pontormo and for Alessandro Allori.
1546–1547
A trip to Rome: encountering Michelangelo
During his stay in Rome in 1546–1547 Bronzino gets to know the work of Michelangelo and learns a great deal from it; he idolizes Michelangelo. The journey is sometimes dated to 1548.
