Returns to Middelburg in the service of Adolf of Burgundy
After Philip's death he returns to Middelburg, where he had already lived in 1509–1517, and takes service as court painter with Philip's brother Adolf of Burgundy, lord of Veere.

Death of Philip of Burgundy and his tomb
Gossaert's patron Philip, by then Bishop of Utrecht, dies; the painter seems to have remained in his employment until the end. Gossaert designs and erects Philip's tomb in the church of Wijk bij Duurstede.
