This figure of a kneeling cleric, inscribed on the back with his name and coat of arms imitates earlier donor figures shown in the devotional paintings or altarpieces they commissioned. This example may have formed part of a larger devotional group but it is more likely to be made for Van der Tyt himself in imitation of Netherlandish works of around 1450-1500.
