Über das Gemälde
Baz Bahadur was the Muslim ruler of Malwa in central India from about 1555 to 1561. The love between him and the beautiful Hindu poet and musician Rupmati is a popular theme in paintings of the period. They are usually depicted riding side by side in a moonlit landscape. The Persian inscription on the border reads ‘Baz Bahadur and Rupmati, the work of Faqirullah’.
