Imens i livet hos Henri Cartier-Bresson

Hele livet
  1. 1965–1967

A second retrospective: Tokyo, Paris, New York, London

In 1965–1967 his second retrospective was shown in Tokyo, at the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris, and in New York, London, Amsterdam, Rome, Zurich, Cologne and other cities.

  2. 1966

He steps back from Magnum for portraits and landscapes

In 1966 he withdrew as a principal of Magnum (which still distributes his photographs) to concentrate on portraiture and landscapes; he settled in the mountains of Provence and took up drawing Alpine landscapes.

  3. 1967

Divorce from Ratna Mohini after thirty years

In 1967 he divorced his first wife of thirty years, the Javanese dancer Ratna Mohini (known as “Elie”).

  4. 1968

Turning away from photography, back to drawing

In 1968 he began to turn away from photography and return to his passion for drawing and painting; he admitted that perhaps he had said all he could through photography.

  5. 1970

The exhibition “En France” at the Grand Palais

In 1970 the exhibition “En France” opened at the Grand Palais in Paris (the book “France”, with a text by François Nourissier, appeared the same year); it later travelled to the US, the USSR, Australia and Japan.
