Imens i livet hos Giovanni Battista Piranesi
Hele livet1743–1747
Back in Venice, near Tiepolo
In 1743–1747 Piranesi lived mainly in Venice, where among other things he worked with Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, the city's leading painter; Tiepolo's new spatial thinking may have opened new possibilities for his own prints. Other accounts say only that he often visited Tiepolo.
c. 1747
Back in Rome: a workshop on the Via del Corso
From Venice Piranesi returned to Rome and opened his own workshop on the Via del Corso; from then until his death he lived in Rome. Studying Marco Ricci and Giovanni Paolo Panini, he produced a vast number of etchings of the monuments of ancient Rome and views of the city of his own day.
1750
First edition of the “Prisons”
The first edition of the “Prisons” appeared in 1750 (or in 1749, by other accounts): 14 etchings, untitled and unnumbered, with a sketch-like look.
