Signing “L.K.” instead of a name
She often does not sign her works at all, signs with the gender-neutral initials “L.K.”, or blends her signature into the painting so as not to emphasize that she is a woman and the wife of another painter.

Move to Springs
She moves with Pollock to a farmhouse in Springs on the outskirts of East Hampton; they marry in a church with two witnesses that summer, and keep separate studios: hers in the upstairs bedroom, his in the barn. Another account dates the move to Long Island to 1946.

Destroys her cubist works
She reassesses her past work and destroys many of the cubist works made while studying with Hofmann, although most of the paintings made between 1938 and 1943 survive.

Exhibition “Artists: Man and Wife”
With Pollock she takes part in a group exhibition at the Sidney Janis Gallery as “Mrs. Jackson Pollock”; an ARTnews reviewer writes that such wives “tidy up” their husbands’ styles, turning his unrestrained lines into neat little squares and triangles.
