In the late 1970s, Nakahashi experimented with the idea of kaleidoscopic imagery. As part of his photography practice, he designed a unique lens attachment that transformed standard photographic images into abstract geometric patterns. Around the same time, he completed this colored-pencil drawing. As in his photographic experiments, Nakahashi applied kaleidoscopic principles to generate a fragmented, intersecting arrangement of framed oil paintings in a convincing illusion of reality.
